A general overview of mental illness. This course provides a basic understanding of common mental disorders (such as schizophrenia, manic-depression, and anxiety disorders) in order to foster compassion and patience among caregivers.

• Define mental illness.
• Describe at least three symptoms each of mania, depression, anxiety disorder, and schizophrenia.
• Discuss how to help clients manage the symptoms of mental illness.
• List at least three warning signs one may observe in a suicidal client.
• Demonstrate how to help a client who has been diagnosed with a mental illness.
